Year Five and Six Highlights
Back
We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! The children enjoyed sharing their favourite books, dressing up as beloved characters and participating in engaging reading activities. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for stories and reading. Our focus T4W genre this half-term is on biographies. This week, we explored the key features of a biography, including chronological order, key life events and the use of formal language. The children will begin researching inspirational figures and will soon be crafting their own biographical pieces. Year 5 had their first swimming lesson this week, and what a splash they made! The children showed great enthusiasm and determination as they practiced their swimming techniques.
This week has been an exciting and enriching experience for Year 6. They had the opportunity to visit RAF Hendon, where they participated in engaging workshops about air raids during World War II. A highlight of the visit was trying on pilot uniforms from different countries and time periods, giving them a hands-on appreciation of aviation history. The children were particularly amazed by the sheer size of the Avro Lancaster aircraft, which left a lasting impression. We also celebrated World Book Day with great enthusiasm. The children took part in a carousel of activities, where they explored different teachers' favourite books through interactive experiences. Some crafted magical wardrobes inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia, while others faced the challenges of the Lost Boys in an adventurous storytelling session. It was a fantastic week filled with immersive learning, creativity, and a deepened appreciation for history and literature.
