Year Five and Six Highlights

This week, Year 5 have enjoyed a truly memorable and immersive experience during our much anticipated Viking Day. The event was designed to enrich the children’s understanding of Viking history in an engaging and interactive manner. The day commenced with an exciting introduction in the school hall, where the children were captivated by our visiting Viking expert. They were given a glimpse into the world of the Vikings, setting the tone for the activities ahead. Following the introduction, the children rotated through three interactive sessions in their classrooms. The first was a fascinating Viking artefact session, where the children had the opportunity to handle replicas and learn about their historical significance. The second session featured an educational Viking-themed quiz, allowing the children to test their knowledge in a fun and dynamic way. Finally, they participated in a Viking game, which brought an element of strategy and teamwork into the mix. After lunch, the children gathered once more in the hall to review the quiz answers together, sparking lively discussions about what they had learned. The day concluded with a captivating talk on Viking warriors and their weapons, leaving the children inspired and eager to explore this historical era further.

This week, Year 6 have been busy exploring a range of exciting topics across their subjects! In RE, the children researched different creation stories from around the world, mapping them and discovering fascinating similarities and differences. Geography lessons took them to India, where they delved into the country’s human geography. Looking ahead to Science, the children will engage in a hands-on lesson to learn how shadows are formed, using torches to investigate this intriguing concept. It’s been a fantastic week of learning and discovery!
